This stunning example has been sharpened to perfection by its previous owner after spending nearly £15,000 with Simpson Motorsport throughout his ownership to further enhance its performance and reliability, now delivering the ultimate E46 M3 CSL experience (full breakdown of work carried out in 2023 below).

The iconic naturally-aspirated S54 sits at the heart of it, breathing through that legendary carbon airbox with CSL specific mapping and a BMW Motorsport 3.91 diff that completely transforms the way it drives. Recent servicing, valve clearances, and cooling system refresh put it in peak mechanical health ready to be fully enjoyed on the road or used as a serious track day weapon.

The chassis work is where this car now really sets itself apart. After being involved in an on-track incident in 2010 and subsequently repaired professionally by Simpson Motorsport using a Thorney Motorsport chassis (still remaining fully HPI clear), they took this CSL to an even higher level of handling and performance, now running Intrax 1k2 coilovers, floating rotors, refreshed brake lines, rebuilt damper, plus full geometry and corner weighting to give it the predictability and composure you want from a track-focused M3 CSL. Further work including integrated roll cage, Recaro buckets, and rear seat delete for additional weight-saving complete the track-focused package.

BREAKDOWN OF RECENT WORK

The following is a detailed summary of work carried out by Simpson Motorsport in Nov 2023:

Full vehicle strip-down for paint preparation: removal of glass, trim, lights, and interior
Roll cage area cleaned, prepped, and repaired with new welded floor sections and cage supports
Rear battery tray area repaired and strengthened
Reassembly of all exterior and interior components post-paint, including doors, trims, carpets, dash, and lighting
New front windscreen, trims, and fittings installed
Dampers stripped, cleaned, re-greased, and re-pressurised; one front damper body replaced
Full geometry setup including ride height, camber, toe, and corner weighting
New front brake pressure sensor and replacement of corroded front brake hard lines with full ABS bleed
Engine service: oil, filter, spark plugs, valve clearances checked and adjusted (1 inlet + 4 exhaust shims replaced)
Oil leak rectified (chain tensioner, sump plug, PAS reservoir)
New radiator installed with coolant flush and pressure test
Fuel surge tank system inspected and components reinstalled after interior refit
New Recaro seat covers fitted
New wheel studs and nuts fitted
Brake system refreshed with Motul RBF 660 performance fluid
Steering wheel retrimmed
